Adult ‘Gap Year’

Adult Gap Year

Have you heard of an ‘adult gap year’?

The idea is inspired by youth taking time off between high school and starting college but spun for those later on in their careers who want time to recharge, explore, travel, and otherwise prioritize themselves.

Recognizing that life is short and our retirement years don’t come with a guarantee, some folks are looking for ways to live life now.

Of course, just like with any extended leave, it’s a perk that poses challenges for employers needing to manage the logistics of their team member being away with decisions about if and how to backfill or reprioritize projects.

And on the employee’s side, naturally these likely aren’t paid leaves so you need to be able to afford not just a break from your work duties but also from your paycheck.

Both are solvable challenges when you think of the amazing benefits to mental health and the positive impact on company culture.

So, what do you think? Would you take an adult gap year?

Where would you go?

And can I come, too??
